Black Pennell

In this video I'll tie the fly Black Pennell. In 1886, its author, released the first fly tying hooks with an eye facing downwards. That makes the design of these hooks about 140 years old! The man behind that idea and the fly was called Henry Cholmondeley-Pennell. He was a remarkable man because he was not only an angler, but also a poet and writer. He published five books about fishing, along with a poetry book with a collection of own poems. His fly, Black Pennell has become a classic wet fly pattern in the category of the very best flies there are. Black Pennell is very similar to another fly named Teal and Black because if you add a wing from a mallard to the Black Pennell, you'll have Teal and Black. Both flies are excellent and have long proven themselves to be among the best. I can 100% recommend Black Pennell if you are going out fishing for trout. The fly is quick and not complicated at all. Black Pennell deserves a place in all fly boxes for trout.

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
