A Belated Opening...

Join Dan and I on a day trip into a lower New Zealand North Island, backcountry river yesterday.

Having been tied up with work, rubbish weather and family commitments, meant we each missed the start of the new trout fishing season here in New Zealand which runs from October 1st through to April 30th. So we set about getting "on-the-board" for the new season.

High river flows from recent rain made the going really hard with many deep and slippery crossings, but we got some nicely conditioned fish with most coming to dry fly which is always a nice bonus. Not big numbers, but the surroundings more than compensate for that.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
