Tied by: Darren MacEachern
Originated by: Darren MacEachern
Hook: Partridge CS15
Head: Orange
Tail: Long golden pheasant crest
Body: Dark blue floss
Ribbing: Orange floss bordered by silver oval tinsel along each side
Belly: White bucktail
Throat: Orange hackle
Wing: Four blue hackles
Shoulder: Blue peacock breast feather
Cheeks: Grey peacock pheasant
Notes: During the 2006 run for hockey's Stanley Cup, I was struck with Oilers fever. The team came into the first round of playoff action just barely eking out an 8th place finish in the Western Conference. I spent many late nights cheering the team on, and had been on the edge of my seat for weeks while the games played out. A friend of mine had given me a small amount of Gray Peacock Pheasant, and I immediately though of using it to represent the "Oil Drop" in the Oilers logo. Sadly, the oilers lost in the finals, but their grit and determination was awe inspiring. This is one of my earlier long streamers, and even though I tied this early into my streamer addiction, it is still one of my favorite flies. I hope that you enjoy this "art fly".

Long story longer
The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.

Darren, I love the use of an orange and blue combination, and Grey Peacock Pheasant. It is something I have particular loved as well. Stunning fly.

Thanks Kelly! I was gifted a few Peacock Pheasant feathers way back when and used them to tie this. I still have a couple left and should put them to use on another streamer. Thanks for checking out the streamer.

Absolutely love this fly, but finding the peacock pheasant isn't easy, any ideas of what other feathers could be used as the cheek?

Thanks Chris
It is a hard feather to find, and I don't think there is an easy sub, but I would tie in a guinea hen feather with a jungle cock nail in front perhaps. If you try it out, send it and I'll post it.

I just noticed you're in Toronto! I tied a couple of these the way you suggested with the JC and Winter hatches asked me to demo it, you aren't a member are you?
