Book review: Proven Patterns

Flies for Sea Trout, rivers - Flies for Sea Trout, saltwater - Flies for Pike

The concept of small booklets with patterns has been seen before, and offers a quick overview over a small number of patterns in a small handy and not least inexpensive format. Barry Ord Clarke's first three booklets offer 10-15 patterns, some with detailed step-by-step pictures and some just with a single image or two, a materials list and tying instructions. The pictures are very high quality and the average quality of the booklets is equally high. The price is about 4 UK£ or 6 US$ per book, which is a very low price for a book, but not dirt cheap when you consider that you get about 35 pages in a very small format. Still some very accessible books, which are perfect for beginning fly tyers. More titles are underway with more salmon flies, bass flies, carp flies an many more.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
