Alma Rún

In this tutorial we'll be tying the famous pattern Alma Rún by mr. Sigursteinn Húbertsson (1932-2013). Sigursteinn designed the fly and named it after his granddaughter who fished with him. Sigursteinn fished a lot in lakes like Hlíðarvatn in Selvogur, but that's where the Alma Rún fly comes from. The fly Alma Rún is an excellent pattern for especially Arctic char and has had a great success in Hlíðarvatn, Þingvallavatn national park and more lakes. Personally I have had good experience with the fly. Sigursteinn used to tie a lot of flies and sold them on retail to stores here in Iceland. I was never lucky enough to meet Sigusteinn himself but for pure coincidence I got his know Sigursteinns daughter a little just in January this year 2020. She's a paramedic and works at the national hospital in Reykjavík and took excellent care of me there after a surgery I had to undergo in las January. When I told her about in interest in fly fishing and fly tying, she told me stories of her father for over an hour. I just say many thanks Ingibjörg for taking such a good care of me and share the information about your father. When I told her about my YouTube channel and that I wanted to make a video about her fathers fly she was delighted. :) Alma Rún is a simple pattern to tie and well worth keeping a few in your box when you go fishing.

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
