Undertaker

Here we will be tying the fly Undertaker by Warren Duncan that he came up with in 1979, so the fly is recent compared to many other salmon flies.
The story with the fly goes like that Warrens friend Chris Russell was fishing in the Nashwaak river without a success but he noticed another angler close by who landed two fishes and broke the hook point off on the backcast. He, the other angler changed the fly and dropped the damaged fly on the ground. Chris Russell picked up the fly and brought it home but he and Warren couldn't find anything that matched the fly so they started to play a little bit around with the pattern and the outcome from that is the Undertaker. Warren caught a 24 pound salmon on in the Hammond River and Chris got a 38 pound salmon on it in the Kedgwick. It was published in the Orvis catalog next year and all of a sudden the Undertaker was a fly. The rest is history with this great great pattern by Warren Duncan. May he rest in peace with great thanks for his patterns. With the jungle cock eyes, Warren called the fly sighted Undertaker and without them he called it blind Undertaker.

The Undertaker fly is great option for salmon fishing and it will fish some sea run trout as well. Tied as a nymph it will catch some arctic char! I tried that last summer with good results. The fly is not that hard to tie, and it's totally worth to keep one or two in your box. What is iconic for the fly are the green and red colours in the butt of it.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
