January fish

Usually I consider January and February as the two absolutely slowest months of the year - fishing wise that is.

But 2005 is well on its way to prove me wrong. Even though we have had some horrid weather: storm, rain, high water and all sorts of rough weather, we have also had a few good days.

Yesterday was one. The low preassures that typically come running in from west, one after an other, was temporarily bounced off by a semi-stable high preassure, and we were supposed to get a beautiful day.

Well, it turned out to be less beautiful than expected, but still very god compared to usual January weather.

So we went fishing, of course.

And I don't remember ever having seen so much activity in the water in January! We saw fish immediately when we arrived, activity in the surface and jumps. And people were catching. One of the location we visited obviously had a school of smaller fish travelling aloing the coast and in the second place we not only saw, but also caught good size sea trout and really large rainbows.

Personally I didn't get anything, but almost everybody else caught fish - and some more than one, which is really rare in January.

But... and there is a but. The weather is quite unstable this time of year, and changes rapidly. Today is OK, but tomorrow we'll see westerly winds and rain again. And later this week a storm approaches.

Well, so much the better, because the more the winds blows and the weather is ugly, the less people fish. And the better the few good days in January become.
